Motorcycle racing leg end

We recently had Bert Scroggins' famous race bike, the 1924 Triumph Ricardo, that Bert raced to success in the Isle of Mull in 1924.

His ambition from a young age was always to race in the TT, but geography was never his strong point, and he arrived in the Isle of Mull, on his bike, in June 1924.

Bert often wondered why he was the only competitor, but he raced on regardless, and managed a well deserved 2nd place in the senior race, winning a coverted wooden replica.

Having realised his ambition, Bert Scroggins hung up his racing leathers and went back to Oswaldtwistle, to work on the family Black Pudding farm.

The photo shows young Bert at the end of the race, with his Triumph Ricardo. (The roads were quite rough apparently)

Bad News - Bert Scroggins, Vintage Racing Leg End, will not be signing autographs and posing for selfies, almost live and in person, at Stafford Classic Bike Show. Bert is playing in goal for Notts County Saturday afternoon. We will try to book him for another show.

We will still be there. Come and say hello to Phil and Ken and Phil and Lynn and Emily and Ellie, and some lovely rusty motorcycles. Stand 200 in the main hall. See you at Stafford.
